My Story

About me:

My name is Ajuba Kempadoo-Millar, I have always had a natural affinity with animals since I was a child. I spent a lot of my childhood around dogs, cats, rabbits, and baby squirrels I rescued whilst in primary school. I have always been calm and enjoyed being around animals.

My passions & hobbies include surfing, wildlife, traveling, and business. I love traveling around the world and meeting with the local communities & cultures.

I understand the responsibilities of staying in someone’s home and taking care of their beloved pet(s) so I pride myself on being responsible and trustworthy. Currently running a UK-based millinery company online (KM Headwear) Which gives me the freedom to be available for the attention your pets deserve throughout the day.

I am currently based in Algarve, Portugal. However, my services are available around Europe, the UK, and the Caribbean islands.

My passion is with animals so being able to run Posh Paws as a business is a dream come true!!

Work Experience/Qualfications

I studied for a technical diploma in Animal Behavior at Askham Bryan University in York, England. I studied and practiced training exotic & domestic animals. These ranged from training Rhinos how to open their mouths within the zoos, large reptiles how to follow a target stick, basic training tailored towards domestic canines, and many other niche training exercises for exotic animals.

I decided to travel to the Caribbean where I assisted Corbin Wildlife Sanctuary in Tobago. We built and renovated enclosures. Including Caimen, Ocelot, and Quenk enclosures while learning more about the native animals of Trinidad & Tobago.

In Trinidad & Tobago, I learned how to scuba dive and spearfish spending the majority of my time at sea. This led to me learning and teaching kids how to sail in Trinidad. After a few months of repairing/maintaining yacht engines, me and my friends started to do fishing charters.

Whilst in Tobago I worked with the Yahweh Foundation a youth group on the island due to my self-sufficient lifestyle/story for my age (17). They hired me to teach the young “troubled” kids to gain more focus and to teach them the fundamentals of how to read and write along with an understanding of animals/aquatic life which most of the islanders are afraid and miseducated on.

I have since then had the opportunity to assist in raising funds for a start-up rum company (Tobago Gold) around the globe and most recently become the director of a Headwear company (KM headwear). I manage both of these roles remotely for the most part, which gives me the freedom to look after your pets!

Previous Pet sitting Experience

During my time traveling/working within various fields, I looked after numerous pets within their houses in the UK, Portugal, and the Caribbean, making sure the dogs were happy whilst their owners traveled:

Wendy Yawching - Bolt, Lucky, Kujo, Jada: (Tobago)

I started off by looking after a pack of 4 dogs in Tobago; Bolt, Lucky, Kujo, and Jada. I looked after the pack whilst Wendy Yawching went traveling for 3 weeks. Wendy Yawching… first female captain at BWIA in the Caribbean. Wendy left me with the responsibility of a gorgeous villa that overlooked the island. Bolt showed traits of aggression towards previous pet sitters. Due to my understanding of animal behaviour and natural affinity with dogs, I was able to create a trusted relationship between us all.

Ingrid Newman - Lulu & Daphene (Grenada)

I had the pleasure of looking after Lulu & Daphene on the Caribbean island of Grenada for 4 weeks while Ingrid and her family sailed to South Africa. We went for daily beach walks around the Marina and Grand Anse Beach.

Sue Sutherland - Otter, Mika, and Yoshi + other farm animals (Portugal)

I have looked after Otter, Mika & Yoshi numerous times whilst I’m here in Portugal, They live in an amazing country house on a lake. I spent days trying to get Otter comfortable with the kayak. on the lake and training Mika how to behave herself with the other dogs while her owners are away.

Sam Myers - Mondo, Bobbet & Bemo (UK)

I went to live with Mondo, Bobbet, and Bemo (Hairless cat) in Leeds for 2 weeks whilst Sam & Lincoln went to sail their boat to Gibraltar, I grew up knowing all of their pets. It was a nice relaxing time looking after the three of them back in my hometown of Leeds.

Charelne Mckoin - Lady Graca (Portugal)

I have stayed at Charlene’s numerous times while she travels, making sure Lady Graca enjoys her retired cat years in luxury. She’s such a friendly sociable cat always politely asking for attention.

Dermot & Bronagh - Flynn & Murphy (Portugal)

I was contacted by Bronagh asking to look after her 2 golden retrievers, I went to live with the cheeky pups for 5 days whilst Dermot & Bronagh visited Ireland. They provided a lot of entertainment constantly running off with all my socks and shoes. They liked to wake me up at 6:30 am to watch the sunrise and play fight.

Franklin & Eveline - Sofia (Portugal)

Franklin & Eveline are good friends in Portugal they contacted me whilst they were planning to go to Amsterdam & Africa for the winter months. I came to stay with Baby Sofia for a month in Quinta Do Lago. She’s super shy around other people. I spent a lot of time training her to get comfortable with the cars, bikes, and people on the roads/streets of Quinta. After bringing my dog over from Tavira Sofia learnt the basic dog walking skills/recall. She was full of personality and would wake me up with a different toy out of her basket each time.
